Most users of optical mouse will know this feeling, you have a hard mousepad and after some time your mousefeets start to wear off. This result in worse gliding and more noise. Any solutions for this? Yeah, Mouse Skatez or Teflon tapes. But why spend $3 on those if you could easily make them yourself??

For a more professional look, do this:
Items Needed:
Film Canister (I used black Kodak canister, shouldn't matter)
Double-sided Scotch tape (I used Manco, with backing)
1) Find a film canister.
2) Cut down the side from top to bottom, cut the bottom out and trim the top edge.
3) Cut two strips 1/4" wide, cutting around the diameter. (You can use it to cut out new feet to replace the old, if you wanted.)
4) Attach by placing the plastic strip on the tape, trim the excess tape from around the edge. Remove the backing and stick it to the mouse. (I used a V shape, with the point centered at the heel of my hand and each strip angled out so the ends were to the outside edge of the mouse.)
Warning: If you use a corded mouse you may need something to keep the mouse on your keyboard tray, for this I used a cable clip.
I just came up with this after reading the Mod, didn't mean to one up someone. If anyone would like to write a full mod article for this, please do. I give all credits to anyone who wants to use it, afterall, ideas are free.

Thanks for the ideas.
I don't really follow these forums so I'm not sure if anyone else has already shared this idea but here's what I do with my mouse pad sometimes. I have a cordless optical Logitech MX700 mouse and a Ratpadz mousepad. I sometimes use the same vinyl/rubber protectant that I use on the dashboard of my car on the Ratpadz mousepad. In particular, I use Meguiar's Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant since that's what I have in the garage. It doesn't smell strange like Armor All.
Anyway, it makes my mouse really glide on top of the mouse pad. Though it really works well with my current mouse. It didn't work as well with my old Logitech Mouseman mouse (corded ball mouse) since the ball would sometimes have trouble holding onto the surface of the pad resulting in brief pauses in the mouse cursor movement. |
